4 Step Plan

Awareness raising campaign

Through the media, events and educational packs, the objective is to encourage the commitment of greater resources for the development of Africa’s energy services.

Through a programme of advertisements, publications and educational films, the connection between improved access to electricity and poverty alleviation will be demonstrated. Advertisements will show just how important, access to energy is for Africa's development.

The Africa Energy Summit

Action on the ground is needed if there is to be a change, and this will not occur unless leaders in the international energy community, politicians and community representatives makes a sustained commitment to drive forward programmes of electrification in Africa.

We propose to encourage this by launching the Africa Energy Summit (AES), which would be held in November 2010.

“Electric Africa” concert

The summit will be held in conjunction with a concert called Electric Africa, which would encapsulate what the campaign (YEA) is all about. The concert and surrounding cultural events will celebrate African music and art.

Combining the events provides a unique opportunity to link the African energy sector to the general public and bring together world leaders in support of the campaign to electrify Africa.

Electric Africa Database

We will produce a database of African power projects to document the existing, planned and required on-grid capacity of public and private power plants. Renewable energy projects will also be monitored.

There is no such database that currently exists.

The database would be an extremely valuable resource for the whole sector and would provide publicity for current projects, as well as effectively highlighting what is missing.
