Vision and mission of YEA

YEA Mission: Celebration of the Year of Electrifying Africa

To raise awareness of the immediate need to dramatically increase the availability of energy and electricity throughout Africa.

To facilitate progress through discussion and projects, to implement the electrification of Africa.

Project plan:

AfricaConnect seeks to stimulate the development of Africa’s energy and electricity sectors as indispensable drivers of growth and self-sufficiency, through international campaigns to publicise Africa’s critical power and energy shortages.

The nomination of 2010 as “The Year of Electrifying Africa”(YEA) will be a major feature of the campaign to focus attention on the electricity deficiency in Africa.

Why is this project so important?

Serving as the year that will power Africa into a new light, in a period where the world’s attention is turned to Africa; this is the time to electrify Africa.

This underrepresented area is a huge barrier to development.

Vital services including incubators in hospitals, the power to run agricultural machines, lighting schools and houses, and energy for cooking are all dependent on the supply of electricity and energy, which is severely lacking in Africa.

Large areas of Africa are simply left in the dark when night falls. The lack of electricity and energy in Africa means that self-sufficiency in many areas is challenging and the need for emergency aid and support continues to be relentless.

There is an immediate need to take a stand, publicise the cause and bring about change.
